HUIDA/ How to use heat shrinkable tubing

Heat shrink tubing is a tubular product made of thermoplastic polymer materials, named after its ability to shrink after being heated. Heat shrink tubing is commonly used in fields such as electronic equipment, cable connections, and automotive electrical systems.

1.To prepare materials, determine the cable diameter’s size or the diameter that corresponds to the cable’s length and width, then choose a heat shrink tube with a diameter that is marginally larger than the cable diameter.

2. Remove burrs and sharp corners on the cable to prevent cracking caused by piercing the heat shrink tube during retraction. It is necessary to use a quick drying cleaning agent in advance to clean the oil and impurities on the cable connection part and keep it clean

3. Calculate the length of the package required and cut the corresponding length of the heat shrink tube. When cutting the heat shrink tube, the cut should be neat and smooth, without burrs or cracks, to avoid stress concentration caused by heating shrinkage and spreading along the crack

4. Insert the heat shrink tubing into one end of the cable, move the wrapped heat shrink tubing to a suitable position, and for bent cables, organize the heat shrink tubing at the corners to prevent wrinkles.

5. The heating tool usually uses a hot air gun, oven, or hair dryer. During the heating process, it should be heated in a single direction from left to right or from right to left. It can also be heated from the middle to both ends to avoid air being left in the heat shrink tube. After contraction, it tightly wraps the cable and should not be too close to the surface of the sleeve or concentrated in one place for heating, otherwise it may cause uneven thickness or burn the sleeve.
