HUIDA/Qixi Festival

Qixi Festival , also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. It is a day when couples express their love for each other and pray for happiness and good fortune.

Legend has it that the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl are separated by the Milky Way, and they are only allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. On this day, magpies form a bridge across the sky to reunite the couple. To commemorate this romantic story, people celebrate Qixi by exchanging gifts, making wishes, and telling love stories.

During the Qixi Festival , young girls prepare offerings of fruits, flowers, and decorations to worship the Weaver Girl, praying for skill in needlework and a good marriage. They also write their wishes on small pieces of paper and hang them on bamboo branches. People believe that if it rains on this day, it represents the tears of the Weaver Girl as she longs for her beloved husband.

In recent years, Qixi has become increasingly popular, and many activities are organized to celebrate this day. Shopping malls are decorated with Chinese Valentine’s Day-themed decorations, and special events such as couple photography contests, romantic movie screenings, and love-themed concerts are held. Many couples also take this opportunity to go on romantic dates or exchange gifts as a symbol of their love and commitment.

Although Qixi is traditionally a day for couples, it has evolved to become a celebration of love in all forms. It is no longer just about romantic love, but also about the love for family, friends, and oneself. People use this day to express their gratitude and appreciation to those who have been by their side through thick and thin.

In conclusion, the Qixi Festival  is a special day where love is celebrated and cherished. It is a time to connect with loved ones, express affection, and make wishes. Whether it is through romantic gestures, acts of kindness, or spending quality time with loved ones, the spirit of love permeates the air on this day.
